Biography
Brian McClure is the Racial Equity Policy Manager at Lyft. He is responsible for helping the organization to normalize, operationalize, and organize around racial equity. This includes spearheading the Project Lewis Racial Equity working group, helping the company to define and apply a racial equity lens to policy decisions, and managing strategic partnerships.
Prior to joining Lyft, Brian was the founding Director of CORE, the DC Council Office of Racial Equity. This was the first racial equity office ever created in the Nation's Capital. There, he created a process to review legislation to determine it's racial equity impact on communities of color.
Prior to joining CORE, Brian served in several leadership capacities for Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie and the Council’s Committee on Business and Economic Development. There, he helped lead the District’s efforts to operationalize racial equity into the Council’s legislative process. He also helped provide innovative solutions to increase opportunities for the District’s small and local businesses and in particular, Black and minority-owned businesses.
Brian received his BA in History at Hampton University, an MA in History from North Carolina Central University, and his PhD in US History, African American History, and Atlantic World History from the University of Memphis. When he is not working at Lyft, he can be found roaming local bookstores, searching for vinyl records, cooking, or spending time with his wife and two children at their home in Charleston, South Carolina.
